Mel was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, but spent most of her adult life in Australia. Although she has a diploma in Graphic Design, Mel is mostly self-taught and has been creating designs for fabric for 10 years. Mel's art style is often characterized by a blend of whimsical elements and her love for the natural world. When leaning towards the whimsical side, she tries incorporating playful and imaginative elements that invite the viewer to explore their sense of wonder and magic. Other times, her work takes a more realistic approach, aiming to capture the beauty and intricacy of the natural world. Mel draws inspiration from fairy tales, childhood memories, dreams, the funny stories her kids tell her, as well as the flora and fauna that surrounds her. Her work often reflects the colours, textures, and patterns of the natural world. Aside from designing, Mel loves knitting, sewing, and embroidery, as well as long walks in nature and mountain biking!
