Our Story

Gordon Fabrics is a family owned and operated business spanning three generations.

Our company is rooted in the values shared by Jack Gordon when he started the company in 1959. We are committed to leading with integrity through exceptional customer service, premium products and by never taking shortcuts.

It all started with a clear vision: to supply retail stores with top-quality fabric from Canadian mills. Over time, Jack slowly branched into American fabric lines, and cultivated relationships with fabric retailers across Canada.

Jack’s sons Shane and Peter both started in the company at a young age, working in the warehouse. From there, they both worked their way up and eventually moved into sales.

Both brothers set their sights on expanding the company’s presence across the country. Shane moved to Toronto to open the company’s east coast operation and Peter set his sights on sourcing fabrics from across the globe.

In the late 1970s, Peter went to Japan. This trip proved to be a pivotal moment; from the mid-1980s onwards, Gordon Fabrics started sourcing fashion fabrics extensively throughout Europe and Asia, where the quality was best-in-class. The new division of fabrics allowed Shane to open the doors to Montreal’s booming manufacturing market, further increasing the company’s presence coast to coast.

Sally Gordon started with Gordon Fabrics in 2006. She worked her way up the company (like Jack wanted for his sons) and helped with filing, answering phones, and making shade cards in the sample room before eventually accompanying her father Peter on buying trips across Europe and Asia.

Fast forward to today – Sally is the President, co-owner and head buyer for the company. Peter is still behind the scenes, providing invaluable business insight to Sally and the leadership team, much the same way his father did for him.

Meet Sally

As President, Sally wears many hats within Gordon Fabrics. One of her favourite hats is designing, merchandising, and sourcing fabrics. This follows a lifelong passion for the fashion industry and is a creative outlet for her. Sally learned to sew at a young age and originally wanted to study fashion design after graduating high school. Life pivoted slightly and brought her to Gordon Fabrics, where she shares her creativity through thoughtful and inspiring fabric collections. She has a caring approach to business and views her customers as partners; she happily cheers on their successes and loves to see them grow.  Now a mom, Sally hopes that one day her daughter will share the same passion and be involved in the family business.
